THE OPPORTUNITY
Baobab Foundation has an exciting opportunity for an additional 10 Peer Reviewers who will form a network of 15 people who will lead decisions on how we share grant funds with Black African/Caribbean and Global Majority communities. The fund will resource intersectional racial justice work in the United Kingdom and launches at the end of November 2024.
HOW WE’RE ORGANISED
The Baobab Foundation consists of two community benefit society organisations: By and For Foundation and By and For Community Funding. Our aim is to significantly scale resourcing to Black and Global majority communities, contributing to wealth redistribution, equitable access, solidarity and sustainability.
Baobab Foundation believes that developing and sustaining a by and for led fund where communities are at the heart of our decision-making contributes to our communities’ solidarity, sustainability and legacy. We are now growing our Peer Review Network made up of Baobab members that will review funding applications, talk to applicants, make final funding decisions and help us shape future funds. Our communities have helped us design and shape how the network will operate.
Baobab is reshaping the funding ecosystem by centring and prioritising Black African Heritage people in resourcing, staffing, and funding to dismantle structural, systemic racism and intersectional injustice. While Baobab centres Black African heritage people, we also support Global Majority (People of Colour) individuals, groups, and organisations.

THE ROLE
All of us at Baobab Foundation are on a journey to embody the values of intersectionality, disability justice, and racial justice. We want to take this journey with our Peer Reviewer Network. Peer Reviewers would have a diversity of perspectives and experiences, particularly grassroots and lived experience. They will be community members who are interested in advancing racial justice in the United Kingdom and aligned with Baobab’s values of intersectional justice. The network of Peer Reviewers will have geographical and intersectional representation.
Peer Reviewers will:
Work collaboratively with the other 14 members of the network throughout the process
Be open to listening to alternative views and be willing to adjust or reconsider their existing perspectives
Be self-aware to recognise the influence of their backgrounds and life experiences in how they review applications and interact with others
Work independently to complete desk-based tasks set by the Baobab grants team
Manage their time to attend all virtual and in-person sessions and complete time-bound tasks around their existing commitments, within reason
Have a good understanding of their personal needs and proactively ask for more information or resources to support their work
Process a lot of information in multiple formats (written, audio, visual) and summarise their thoughts
Confidently notetake - e.g. attending calls to summarise key points of applicant video conversations
